OBSESSION
The following post was published by my daughter back in 2011.The blog became obsolete ever since its first post, I happened to bump across this blog while looking create my own and decided to recycle it.I did not want to delete her writing so I have preserved her post below.
I just got treated to the different ways of becoming fair on TV which again makes me wonder on why woman in India are so obsessed about the white skin and are never really quite contented with the complexion that they are born with. Melanin happens to be the epicentre of all these tireless efforts which often goes wasted. The varieties of fairness creams that are now available in the market never seem to lose their appeal and the worst is the addition of men in this eternal quest. What’s more people though are perfectly aware that they cannot transform the colour of their skin in 7 days are never too tired to try these fairness creams. When will the fact that you cannot completely change your complexion ever going to dawn on them???

But the part that gets to my nerves is the celebrities who endorse these products. on one hand they seem to be attending curtain raisers and telling the so-called younger generation that inner beauty is what matters most when they happen to be earning crores and crores for advertising these cosmetics which entirely insist that life is beautiful when only you look fair…at the end of the day they all seem to be spreading the wrong social message that might as well drive the rest of the population to be shallow and judgemental. Stop looking at the mirror in the hope of becoming what you cannot be. or lets hope that people don’t apply these creams and be optimistic to the point of foolishness...
